The Broome Special Investigations Unit Task Force made an arrest after officials responded to a reported chemical odor on Lester Avenue in Johnson City. On Thursday, another arrest in Johnson City involved a "one-pot" operation, police said. The state police Special Operations Response Team and Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team responded to the scene, along with Endwell firefighters and the Union Volunteer Emergency Squad. Police said that evidence included 4 ounces of meth oil, 59 spent "one-pot" containers, lab equipment, a respirator, starter fluid, sulfuric acid, lithium batteries, cutting agents, Coleman fuel, digital scales and packaging material. "Because of the easy way to manufacture this drug, police agencies almost everywhere in this area are dealing with this problem," state Trooper Nathan Riegal said Friday.Ĭrews in hazardous material suits spent several hours Friday sorting through items used in the meth-making process that police seized from the Endwell residence. ![]() ![]() The method is popular, according to police, because the chemical reaction to create the drug takes place in a single container, such as a soda bottle.
